Fat Larry’s Band

Fat Larry’s Band: Formed by drummer and vocalist “Fat” Larry James (born August 2, 1949, Philadelphia) in 1977, band members included trumpeter/flutist Art Capehart, saxophonist Doug Jones, trombonist/alto saxophonist Jimmy Lee, guitarist Ted Cohen, percussionist and lead singer Darryl Grant, bassist Larry La Bes, and keyboardist Erskine Williams. The band’s biggest hits were “Act Like You Know” (1982) (which later appeared on the soundtrack for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City) and the cover of the Commodores ballad “Zoom”, which reached number two in the UK Singles Chart in October 1982. They had three other hits in the UK: “Center City”, “Boogie Town” and “Looking for Love Tonight”. Their best song aesthetically was “Act Like You Know,” a 1982 tune with a surging bass line and simple but catchy lyric refrain. Midnight Star

Midnight Star: Midnight Star est un groupe de funk américain créé en 1976 par les frères Calloway. Au début des années 80, ils signent un premier album, The Beginning, puis un second, Standing Together, qui atteint une honnête place dans les charts rhythm’n’blues américains, notamment grâce au hit I’ve been watching you. Victory, l’opus suivant paru en 1982, jouit d’un score semblable. L’ascension se poursuit avec No Parking on the Dance Floor (1983), qui connaît un grand succès aux USA et renferme les tubes Freak-A-Zoid, No Parking on the Dance Floor, Wet My Whistle ainsi qu’Electricity. Succès encore avec Planetary Invasion, leur sixième album, marquant une évolution musicale par rapport aux précédentes œuvres du groupe dans la mesure où les synthétiseurs y prennent une place primordiale et donnent lieu à un son funk teinté d’electro. Oliver Cheatham

Oliver Cheatham: Oliver Cheatham est un chanteur américain né en 1948 à Detroit dans le Michigan aux États-Unis. Il vit actuellement à Surrey au Royaume-Uni. Considéré par certains comme l’un des meilleurs chanteurs Disco-Funk de tous les temps. Il connait le succès à partir des années 1980, notamment avec son titre Get Down Saturday Night.
